Episode Transcript
[00:00:05] Speaker A: Hello and welcome, friends, to a frightfully special episode of Sipping Mimos.
Join me as we find our heroes, Jake and Elliot. Investigating a new home, Stefani Manor.
And in the process, meeting some of its unexpected occupants.
We find them now just outside this terrifying manor.
[00:00:51] Speaker B: Okay, well, this is the spot.
The weather's pretty creepy. That's all right.
Where is Jake?
Huh?
Yeah. Hello?
Are you out there? Jake?
[00:01:05] Speaker C: Hey, dude, what's going
[00:01:06] Speaker B: on? Oh, dude, thank you so much. I was kind of getting freaked out just standing out here all alone. It's. It's creepy out here, dude.
[00:01:13] Speaker C: I know.
I haven't seen a full moon like this in years. This is. This is something.
[00:01:20] Speaker B: It is something, all right.
[00:01:22] Speaker C: But you know, I wouldn't miss this opportunity to help you move into your new place for anything, dude. Congratulations.
[00:01:28] Speaker B: Oh, thanks. I guess. You know, I haven't been in here yet. I just kind of.
Oh, boy. I don't know. Signed a lease, sight unseen. Because I've always wanted to be in a manor. You know, I just assumed they all have bat caves underneath them and that's always been a dream of mine. I saw this pop up on Craigslist, so I had to jump on it.
[00:01:50] Speaker C: It's gorgeous. I mean, did the headstones come with the house?
[00:01:57] Speaker B: There's like a weird monthly fee to like keep them maintained and everything. Like, I have, you know, I've got rent and that covers my water, thank God, because I like my showers, but I pay gas and then I pay headstone maintenance, which is. It can be expensive, I guess.
[00:02:15] Speaker C: Well, it's not. It's too bad. It's too bad they're dead and you know, they can't chip in on the rent for you, right? You know what I'm saying?
[00:02:21] Speaker B: Oh, good one, buddy.
[00:02:25] Speaker C: Let's check this place out.
[00:02:27] Speaker B: Yeah, let's do it. Okay. Let's walk up to the front door.
Oh, my God. The door just opened by itself. That's really weird. Wow, this place is awesome. Wow.
Oh, boy.
[00:02:43] Speaker C: You know, I mean, I know how big of a Spider man fan you are and just saying, you can probably keep some of these cobwebs. I mean, it probably just to keep the theme going for you, you know what I'm saying?
[00:02:55] Speaker B: Yeah, it's definitely themed. All right.
It's pretty dusty in here. It's gonna do hellfire to my allergies.
Oh, boy,
[00:03:07] Speaker C: Love that chandelier.
[00:03:09] Speaker B: Yeah. Is that a chandelier or is it just a bunch of cobwebs joining forces?
Those are load bearing spider webs.
It's got quite the foyer.
Look at these steps. Man, oh man. How many rooms are in this place? I wonder how many roommates I have.
[00:03:29] Speaker C: So tell me how. Tell me how you came into this place. You said you found it on Craigslist?
[00:03:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:03:37] Speaker C: What drew you to Stefani Manor?
[00:03:40] Speaker B: Yeah. So it was Stefani Manor. I think I was googling 90s tunes and then like.
And while also looking for a new place.
And one of them was a room at a Manor on 666 Blood Splatter Avenue.
So I kind of jumped on it and.
Yeah, here we are.
[00:04:02] Speaker C: In your text message you said something that part of the agreement in order to keep the house was you had to spend an evening in the house, no questions asked. Right,
[00:04:15] Speaker B: Right. Which is. That's typical, right? You want to, you know, spend the night and see if there's leaks or if it's near a railroad track or something.
Is that normal?
[00:04:29] Speaker C: I would say so.
[00:04:30] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:04:32] Speaker C: I'm just, you know, I'm just honored to be part of this momentous occasion. This is going to be awesome.
[00:04:40] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm kind of nervous, but. Because I haven't really.
Haven't really looked around. There's a lot of things going on here. A lot of really creepy paintings.
[00:04:51] Speaker C: Look at this. Looks like someone.
Someone, when they were doing renovations, left some. Left some blood. Or wait, no, I'm sorry. Left some.
Some crimson paint dripping from the wall.
Oh, man.
[00:05:05] Speaker B: They must be remodeling. Right? That's just what that is.
[00:05:09] Speaker C: This gotta be it.
[00:05:10] Speaker B: It's gotta be it. Okay.
Okay.
Ah. Who's that? There's someone at the top of the stairs.
[00:05:17] Speaker C: Oh, gee.
Hi.
[00:05:20] Speaker B: Hey.
[00:05:21] Speaker D: Welcome, you poor devils. Welcome to Stefani Manor, my ghoulish, garish, gorgeous abode.
Don't speak.
I know just what you're saying. You're frightened by my sudden appearance. But I assure you, dearies, I'm just a girl. And I'm only here to make your stay as cozy as possible.
So cozy, in fact, perhaps you'll never want to leave.
Oops.
You might have gotten the wrong impression of me, dearies. But please excuse me, misters, you've got things all wrong.
Come, come, and I'll show you just what a good time we can have here at Stephani Manor.
Right this way.
[00:06:09] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:06:22] Speaker D: You're mine now, my pretties, and you'll soon go bananas. B A N.
[00:06:37] Speaker B: Wow. Okay, well, we're just in.
She shut the door. She shut the door.
[00:06:43] Speaker C: Can you. Do you have a key?
[00:06:46] Speaker B: No, I just. I signed a lease, but they didn't give me anything yet. They told me I had to show up first.
[00:06:54] Speaker C: That's right.
The front door did open on its own earlier.
[00:06:58] Speaker B: That was kind of odd, wasn't it? I didn't even put that together.
Okay.
[00:07:08] Speaker C: Okay, well, maybe. Can you. Can you text.
Can you. Can you text someone? Maybe they can come open it for us.
[00:07:14] Speaker B: Yeah, I'll text. The guy that I was talking to, the. Oh, God.
Had all these, you know, finders fees for this thing. His name was Jason. He seemed cool. Told you about him last time. Jv. He's cool. I'll text him right now and see if he can come over.
[00:07:30] Speaker C: Huge hockey fan, right?
[00:07:32] Speaker B: Yeah, big. Yeah, that's his nickname is JV because he was in hockey. I think that's. That's what I. That's what I call him. And he seems to like it fine.
[00:07:40] Speaker C: This is a hell of a library. Do you get to keep the stuff in this room or did the house come like.
[00:07:45] Speaker B: I mean, I don't think it's my stuff, but. Man, they got quite the library here. Oh, there's some records. There's some old, old ass books.
[00:07:55] Speaker C: Dude. Wait, dude,
[00:07:57] Speaker B: what
[00:07:57] Speaker C: is that? A wall of VHS tapes?
[00:08:00] Speaker B: A wall of V. Oh, my God. They've got a shitload of VHS tapes in here.
[00:08:05] Speaker C: Oh, do you remember VHS tapes?
[00:08:08] Speaker B: I do.
Wow.
When did they stop making VHS tapes?
[00:08:16] Speaker C: I mean, too soon if you ask me.
[00:08:20] Speaker B: Yeah, totally.
Wow.
[00:08:22] Speaker C: I miss like, the cinematic experience of like, watching previews at home. Like, that's.
[00:08:27] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:29] Speaker C: I think, like, one of my favorite things. One of the first things I did, like when I started, like, figuring out how to work a computer was just watch movie previews on repeat. Like, I just. It's the best.
[00:08:40] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely.
[00:08:43] Speaker C: I think my favorite was like the Spider Man 2 trailer when he's fighting Dr. Octopus. Yeah.
[00:08:50] Speaker B: Doc Ock, did you ever see the original not banned but removed trailer for the first Spider Man?
[00:08:59] Speaker C: No.
[00:09:00] Speaker B: The first teaser trailer for Spider Man.
The first Sam Raimi one. It opens with a bank robbery and then these guys take off in a helicopter and get stuck. But the camera pans out and they're stuck in a giant spider web. Speaking of this. Speaking of spider webs.
And it's. But it's a spider web between the twin towers.
[00:09:22] Speaker C: Oh.
[00:09:23] Speaker B: And then, like, it was. It was 01, so they had to get rid of it.
[00:09:27] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:09:28] Speaker B: You can YouTube it though.
[00:09:31] Speaker C: What do you think about that spider verse? Have you heard about this?
[00:09:35] Speaker B: There's a lot of rumors that they're doing like a Spider verse flick for the third one and the most recent is that Jamie Foxx might come back as electro.
[00:09:44] Speaker C: Oh, yeah.
[00:09:46] Speaker B: Which is just bonkers. Who knows what they're doing over there. But I'm.
[00:09:50] Speaker C: If they bring Toby back. Oh, man, Toby.
[00:09:55] Speaker B: I always thought Andrew Garfield got a raw deal too, so it'd be cool to see him again.
[00:09:59] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, I like Andrew Garfield. I mean, he's. I mean, he's got the physique of like Todd McFarlane. Like tall, lean.
[00:10:11] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. And he. They made him funny because Toby Maguire is not like a funny dude. Really?
[00:10:15] Speaker C: You watch. You watch it, sir.
[00:10:18] Speaker B: Sorry.
You a big Toby fan?
[00:10:21] Speaker C: I mean, I love. I mean, Seabiscuit, one of my top 10.
[00:10:25] Speaker B: See biscuit.
Okay.
Nothing from JV yet, so. I don't know, let's. Let's take a look at these VHS's. Maybe we can pop them. Yeah.
Oh, man, they're all from the 90s, dude.
[00:10:41] Speaker C: Oh, dude, they have Dracula from 1992.
[00:10:47] Speaker B: Is that Bram Stoker's? Is that the one with Keanu in it?
[00:10:51] Speaker C: You know it.
[00:10:52] Speaker B: Wow. I've never seen it.
[00:10:53] Speaker C: You know it.
[00:10:54] Speaker B: I've never seen it.
[00:10:58] Speaker C: Bram Stoker, or as I like to call him, Ram Stroker.
That's terrible.
[00:11:04] Speaker B: Why would you call him that?
[00:11:09] Speaker C: Well, it's. That's my. Like, if I. If I were to make like a porno parody of Dracula, it'd be written and directed. Ramstroker.
[00:11:19] Speaker B: Ramstroker.
[00:11:20] Speaker C: Which if you haven't seen it, I mean, this movie is practically a porno. It's Super Sensual.
From 1982. Freaking. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
My girl, Wynonna. Writer.
[00:11:36] Speaker B: Wynonna's in it? Yeah.
Commissioner Gordon.
[00:11:43] Speaker C: Freaking Gary Oldman.
[00:11:45] Speaker B: Gary Oldman, man. Yeah. Who's always amazing in everything he does.
[00:11:49] Speaker C: I.
Honestly, this is like a watch year round for me, not just Halloween. I think I might have.
Do you think the lady of the manor will mind if I just hold on to this one?
[00:12:05] Speaker B: I don't think anyone's been in here in a long ass time, dude. I think you're fine.
Did you bring your second?
You can load up.
[00:12:12] Speaker C: I did. I've got my cargo shorts on. Lots of room for these. Lots of room in these.
[00:12:16] Speaker B: Are those cargo shorts, bro?
They have From Dusk till Dawn.
[00:12:24] Speaker C: Oh, shit.
[00:12:27] Speaker B: You've seen From Dusk till Dawn, right?
[00:12:29] Speaker C: Man, I lived from Dusk till Dawn, bro.
[00:12:32] Speaker B: You did? I feel like we're in a similar situation right now.
[00:12:40] Speaker C: What was the. Is it the Twisted Nipple or the Twisty Nipple?
[00:12:45] Speaker B: Right? Or Titty twister or something. What was it? Yeah, you're right.
[00:12:49] Speaker C: It's something about a boob.
Something
[00:12:51] Speaker B: about boob.
[00:12:54] Speaker C: I strangely don't have reception in here.
I just have a weird, like, scalding crossbones in the corner where the wifi signal would normally be. That's very odd to
[00:13:04] Speaker B: me. Where your bars would be. I need to. Okay. I'm gonna have to ask the lady of the manor, I guess, about what the WI fi password is, because that's.
[00:13:13] Speaker C: That's very scary.
But, dude, dust will die. I haven't seen the movie in years.
[00:13:19] Speaker B: Yeah, it's worth a rewatch. Dude, it's. It's. It's time. It's so brilliantly done, like, and executed. Like, Tarantino gets the first half and Rodriguez gets the second.
That's how they did it.
[00:13:31] Speaker C: I never noticed it.
[00:13:33] Speaker B: Oh, yes.
[00:13:33] Speaker C: Tarantino, like, did he have a hand in directing it or.
[00:13:37] Speaker B: Direct. They're directed and written by both of them. What they did was they shared a script and directing.
So the first half of the movie is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. So that's, you know, like, when Clooney and Tarantino himself are, you know, kidnapping this family and driving, you know, you know, over, you know, going to Mexico and, like. Cause I don't know, I forget they have money or something. I don't know. And it's really twisted and fucked up. And then as soon as they get to the.
This, you know, this place on the border, that's all, you know, fucked up.
As soon as they close the doors, Rodriguez takes over the script and directing. So it just takes. It takes it up a notch.
Awesome.
[00:14:22] Speaker C: I never knew that.
[00:14:24] Speaker B: Yeah. That's why it's an amazing flick. Yeah.
[00:14:29] Speaker C: I can't just. I love the.
Doesn't it have a. Well, of course. Harvey Keitel, he's the priest. Right. And then
[00:14:38] Speaker B: freaking Juliet Lewis.
Yeah. Juliet Lewis. Yeah. He's like. But cartel is like a priest. That's, like, losing his religion. Hey, like, your favorite fan, Salma Hayek, for a minute.
[00:14:56] Speaker C: She does the dance.
[00:14:57] Speaker B: Yeah. Where she puts her foot.
Tarantino's mouth. Because he's clearly into that sort of thing.
[00:15:05] Speaker C: Yeah.
Freaking Danny Trejo.
[00:15:13] Speaker B: Yeah. Trejo's in there. Yeah.
[00:15:17] Speaker C: And then the. The band, which. I think.
[00:15:23] Speaker B: Is it Los Lobos?
[00:15:26] Speaker C: Is it Los Lobos? I thought it was just like a.
[00:15:30] Speaker B: Oh. I thought it was
[00:15:31] Speaker C: a band that comes out in, like, Robert Riga's other films.
[00:15:35] Speaker B: Right. He has, like, a real band in El Mariachi and Desperado. I haven't seen that one. Oh, my God,
[00:15:43] Speaker C: man, did I. Thank you. I will. Oh, the best.
[00:15:49] Speaker B: That's a good Banderas, man. I will
[00:15:52] Speaker C: thank you.
I spent, like.
I spent, like, legit half my life trying to. Trying to, like, perfect my Antonio Banderas.
Do you remember.
Remember when Chris Catan had Antonio Banderas?
[00:16:07] Speaker B: Sorry, you're breaking up. What's that?
[00:16:10] Speaker C: You remember when Chris Kattan had the Antonio Bandera show on snl and it was like a talk show, and he was like, did you say, I must take off my shirt? And like, it's like Horatio Sands and like, Jimmy Fallon. Which Jimmy Fallon is a supporting player to Chris Kattan. So hello, 90s. And they're like, no, no, no. Too sexy. Too sexy.
He just thought, but. But they must. Then he takes off his shirt and they start playing music while he takes.
[00:16:41] Speaker B: Oh, that's awesome.
[00:16:42] Speaker C: Dude, that rules, man. And it's Sex Machine, the guy.
Isn't that Tom Savini, the effects artist?
[00:16:51] Speaker B: Well, that's beyond me. I'm not really sure about that. Damn.
[00:16:53] Speaker C: The one with the guy who put the gun on his belt buckle.
[00:16:56] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That was cool.
[00:17:00] Speaker C: I mean, I would check this on the Internet normally, but, you know, weird crossbones. Oh, we're crossbone bars now?
I think he, like, did, like. He's famous for doing, like, just groundbreaking makeup effects, but that's pretty cool.
What else we
[00:17:18] Speaker B: got?
[00:17:19] Speaker C: Did you hear that?
[00:17:20] Speaker B: What was that?
[00:17:22] Speaker C: Oh, dude, this is
[00:17:24] Speaker B: creepy, man.
[00:17:26] Speaker C: Almost sounded like clawing.
You know what? Cats, dogs, neighborhood, it's no worries.
[00:17:35] Speaker B: Yeah, okay.
[00:17:36] Speaker C: Oh, shit. They have the Frighteners, man. Do you remember that one?
[00:17:40] Speaker B: The Frighteners. Michael J. Fox,
[00:17:44] Speaker C: dude. Michael J. Fox in a horror comedy. Come on.
[00:17:49] Speaker B: Oh, my God. Wait, they have. They have alcoholic seltzers in here.
[00:17:53] Speaker C: Oh, shit.
[00:17:54] Speaker B: Yeah, okay, just. I'm gonna pop one of these open. Hope you don't mind.
Oh, yeah, sorry. Oh, so the Frighteners. Yeah, I haven't seen that. I have legit have not seen that in years and years.
[00:18:08] Speaker C: Dude. The Fright, man. This movie, like, I think directed by Peter Jackson, if I'm not mistaken.
[00:18:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:18] Speaker C: You know, one of his movies before he, like, never ever had to work again.
[00:18:22] Speaker B: Yeah,
[00:18:23] Speaker C: like, I just. I watched it on Just repeat when I was younger.
[00:18:27] Speaker B: On Repeat, Really? Did you have the vhs?
[00:18:29] Speaker C: Super creepy.
I had the vhs. I don't think it was this copy.
This copy is written in that same weird paint that we saw drying in the main room over there. But it says favorite movie ever. I don't know, but Kind of like this.
[00:18:50] Speaker B: Did it have a hologram cover, like at Blockbuster and stuff with the face on it? Yes, poster. And a dope poster.
[00:18:59] Speaker C: I miss hologram stuff, man.
[00:19:02] Speaker B: Man, in the 90s, there was a lot of holograms going around.
What happened?
[00:19:07] Speaker C: Yeah, the hologram crash in 1999. I'll never forget it.
[00:19:11] Speaker B: Wow.
My great grandfather worked in holograms. But, yeah, it was a tough time.
I remember that poster being so cool. Cause it's just the fucking face. Like, blah.
Michael J. Fox is in that movie, and they didn't put him on the poster.
But, like, wouldn't that. Everyone loves Michael J. Fox, and they didn't put him on the poster. It's insane to me. Isn't that crazy?
[00:19:38] Speaker C: It's a very, like, strange movie. I mean, you got so it's from 96. Let me look at the back of it.
You might want to track down another copy of this one, because someone also drew a pentagram on the back of this one.
[00:19:55] Speaker B: Are you gonna take that one with you? Man, it looks. I don't know.
It's not in mint condition by any means.
[00:20:01] Speaker C: I might leave this. This one looks a little used, if you know what I'm saying.
[00:20:04] Speaker B: Yeah,
[00:20:06] Speaker C: see? 96.
Trini Alvarado, Jake Busey. Oh, God.
[00:20:11] Speaker B: Oh, wait. Grim Reaper.
[00:20:15] Speaker C: Yeah, so he's not really the grim Reaper. He's like.
He's a serial killer who comes back. Oh, my
[00:20:22] Speaker B: God.
It's. It's coming back to me now. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:20:26] Speaker C: And I gotta say, the creepiest part, not only in this movie, but like, any movie, was when. So the grim reapers thing is, like, he carves, like, the number of the victim in their forehead.
[00:20:38] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Damn. You watch this movie a lot,
[00:20:42] Speaker C: Dude, I love this movie. That's why I have this. Reiner's tattoo.
[00:20:48] Speaker B: I love that. That's a running gag with you. That's great.
I love that so much.
[00:20:53] Speaker C: And he's talking to Trini Alvarado's husband, and he sees a number carved into his forehead.
And Michael J. Fox's character, he can see ghosts.
He's like a con man. He uses his ghost to make money and say, this house is haunted.
[00:21:12] Speaker B: Right?
[00:21:14] Speaker C: He talks to the ghost afterwards, and he was like, hey, which one of y' all carved the number into his forehead? And they're like, not us. And he's like, that wasn't funny. And he's just like, oh, shoot.
[00:21:27] Speaker B: It reminds me of.
Was it the Last Dragon? The Sean Connery as a dragon movie with.
[00:21:34] Speaker C: Is that Richard Gere?
[00:21:36] Speaker B: No, it's the guy that looks like him a little bit.
The guy from.
The guy from Day After Tomorrow and all that shit. But it's the same plot.
It's a dragon hunter, Quaid, Dennis Quaid finds Sean Connery, the last dragon. And they just come up with a deal where they will con villages. And that's essentially what Michael J. Fox is doing to the same story.
[00:21:59] Speaker C: He's like. He's like, fooling this town to make money.
[00:22:02] Speaker B: Is this like, based on, like some old Shakespearean shit? I guess. Like maybe the Music man or something like that where the guy is like, hustling,
[00:22:11] Speaker C: you know, I.
I don't know. I. It's. This is kind of embarrassing to say. I've watched the Frighteners like a hundred times, but I don't know. The Music Man.
[00:22:20] Speaker B: Oh, it's like an old classic musical or whatever. It's just the same that. The story structure.
I'm just curious. The origins of the Frighteners.
[00:22:30] Speaker C: I would read that essay. That's one of my faves.
[00:22:33] Speaker B: Nice.
[00:22:34] Speaker C: This one seems to be covered. It's blood. I've decided it's blood.
[00:22:39] Speaker B: Why would they be. This is not how you maintain VHS tapes, okay? Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
[00:22:45] Speaker C: What's that? What's up, Jake? What's up?
[00:22:47] Speaker B: They have a VHS copy of the Blair Witch Project.
[00:22:51] Speaker C: Oh, sorry, dude. I don't mean to get wood in your new house, but.
[00:22:58] Speaker B: What? Not before me, at least. Come on.
[00:23:02] Speaker C: I'm sorry.
[00:23:03] Speaker B: I still gotta break it in. Geez Louise.
[00:23:05] Speaker C: But here we are.
[00:23:06] Speaker B: Wait till I have the housewarming party at least.
[00:23:12] Speaker C: I'm sorry. I'm sorry, dude. The Blair Witch Project.
[00:23:15] Speaker B: Blair Witch Project is amazing. Do you remember when this came out? People were losing their shit.
[00:23:20] Speaker C: I remember, like, my baseball. People on my baseball team going to see it and coming to practice and being like. People were so scared that they were throwing up at the end of the movie.
But I think, you know, 20 years later, or however long it's been, I think that's because they were just motion sickness.
[00:23:42] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, it wasn't. Honestly, I do believe VHS is probably the best way to watch this flick. Like, because it's kind of designed for a small screen and, like, you know, you don't want to see this shit in IMAX because you'll lose your lunch. But, like, man, when this came out and, like, the marketing for was so cool because it's just like. Like missing persons posters and, like. Because these people are fucking dead, dude. And we got the Footage. And we found it in the woods or whatever. Oh, my God.
I remember going with a bunch of my friends to see it, and, like, I don't know, a couple of them got a little dizzy from just a shaky cam of it all. But it was the creepiest shit I have ever seen. And I love this one so much.
[00:24:25] Speaker C: It was crazy. I mean, I.
I don't know. Like, this is why I haven't. I haven't seen it in a really long time, but I just remember, like. Well, I mean, we both seen it, so.
[00:24:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:39] Speaker C: That ending scene. Oh, my God.
[00:24:42] Speaker B: Yeah. A lot of people were bummed out that they.
It doesn't show a lot, but, like, I don't know. That's fine with me. I thought it was creepy as hell
[00:24:51] Speaker C: at
[00:24:51] Speaker B: the time. They were bummed out.
[00:24:53] Speaker C: Well, you never saw. You never saw the extended version where it actually showed the Blair Witch.
[00:25:03] Speaker B: Is that a real thing?
[00:25:07] Speaker C: Yes. Like, so it cuts from the guy in the corner, and then it cuts to hard smash through the titular Blair Witch, and she's just like, you know,
[00:25:21] Speaker B: she's like, I'll get you.
Yeah.
[00:25:24] Speaker C: No,
[00:25:24] Speaker B: I didn't. I didn't see that version.
[00:25:26] Speaker C: I have a confession I made.
I'm just having. I'm just having. What the hell?
I just.
I'm just really enjoying your new library.
[00:25:36] Speaker B: What
[00:25:38] Speaker C: did that painting of the young man holding what looks like an axe? Honestly, was he looking.
Was he looking towards the right a second ago? Because now he's looking towards the left. Did you notice that?
[00:25:56] Speaker B: Well, wait, his right or your right? Wait,
[00:26:01] Speaker C: this is true. Matt, you know what?
[00:26:04] Speaker B: Okay,
[00:26:06] Speaker C: you know what? It's. It's dark. I'm just. I'm probably just seeing things. It's cool.
[00:26:11] Speaker B: Ma, did you hear that? Oh, my God. It was like a cat that ran on my foot. Did you
[00:26:15] Speaker C: hear that?
No.
[00:26:17] Speaker B: Oh, God.
[00:26:19] Speaker C: Well, hopefully he has its shots.
[00:26:21] Speaker B: Wait, wait, I'm gonna. I don't know. I'm gonna light up this fireplace real quick. Hang on.
[00:26:24] Speaker C: Cool. I'm gonna check out more movies.
[00:26:27] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:26:32] Speaker A: I sure hope the boys make it out of this one.
The fuck is this?
[00:26:38] Speaker C: Oh, my God.
[00:26:41] Speaker B: What? What? Wait, wait. What? What?
[00:26:44] Speaker C: Okay, question.
Who was your favorite 90s vampire from a Marvel movie? And no, you cannot say Morbius.
[00:26:55] Speaker B: Answer.
Wesley Snipes as Blade. Motherfucker.
[00:27:00] Speaker C: You remember Blade?
[00:27:02] Speaker B: Of course I remember Blade. I'm a big Marvel nerd, man. Blade was huge.
It changed the game, bro.
[00:27:09] Speaker C: I think a lot of people forget that, you know?
[00:27:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:27:13] Speaker C: Cause, I mean, big
[00:27:14] Speaker B: deal.
[00:27:15] Speaker C: Cause before Blade I mean, what was it, like the late 80s? Captain America. Woof. Did you ever see that?
[00:27:23] Speaker B: Well, I don't think I've ever seen it. We got the big chunky helmet and, like, a motorcycle and shit. No, I never saw that one.
[00:27:28] Speaker C: It's rough.
[00:27:30] Speaker B: Well, Blade came out.
When did Blade come out?
[00:27:36] Speaker C: Look at the back of this one.
1998.
[00:27:40] Speaker B: 98. Took a later 90s. I mean, we had already had, like, Batman and the Shadow and stuff like that, but this was like. Let's take it up a notch and use some new effects and a lot of electronic music.
[00:27:54] Speaker C: Dude, we should tell it one of these days when we get back, when you get the studio set up and in the new place.
We gotta talk something about Blade.
[00:28:04] Speaker B: Yeah. Once they get out of this library and find whichever room is supposed to be mine.
[00:28:10] Speaker C: Did you.
There used to be a door here, right? There's no door anymore.
[00:28:15] Speaker B: There's gotta be a. Oh, fuck.
Why isn't there a door?
Okay,
[00:28:21] Speaker C: this kinda. I'm getting a little freaked out. Hand me one of those nightclaws.
[00:28:26] Speaker B: A what?
[00:28:27] Speaker C: One of those night claws.
[00:28:30] Speaker B: I almost thought they were called white claws, but sure enough. On the can, huh?
[00:28:35] Speaker C: Let's talk about. Can we talk about that opening scene in Blade? Which, I mean, honestly, like, we've had, you know, literally, like, dozens of Marvel movies since. Since 1998. Right.
Honestly, I think Blade might be the finest introduction to a Marvel movie.
Thoughts?
[00:29:01] Speaker B: Best opening of a Marvel. Including, like, the mcu.
[00:29:06] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:29:09] Speaker B: Oh, boy. It is pretty epic that you're correct. That's true.
Yeah. I mean, oh, boy.
Yeah, it's hard to beat. Hard to beat because you're, like, really entering the world.
And like, don't. Don't we follow a guy outside some, like, weird Berlin club or something like that? And then he just.
[00:29:27] Speaker C: Well, it's just like. It's this, like, goofy, like, dude, and he's.
He's like.
He's dating an obvious vampire. Like, she's just like.
[00:29:39] Speaker B: She's
[00:29:39] Speaker C: like,
[00:29:39] Speaker B: so clearly a vampire
[00:29:41] Speaker C: this club wants, you know? And he's just like, okay.
[00:29:46] Speaker B: Did she say that? That's a bummer.
[00:29:49] Speaker C: Oh, dude. And he's like, walk. She's, like, walking him through, like, a warehouse. And then at one point, there's, like, a body, and there's like a body hanging. He, like, bumps into it. He's like, oh, what was that? And she's like, don't worry.
[00:30:03] Speaker B: Oh. And then walks to a meat locker or something like that.
[00:30:06] Speaker C: Yeah. Meat locker. Yeah.
[00:30:07] Speaker B: Boom. Okay. There you go. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Wow. Haven't seen that in a while either. Damn.
[00:30:12] Speaker C: And then. And then when they're in the club, and then, like, when the dj, like, he, like.
He, like, I'll never. It's so. Oh, it's so awesome. He, like, he puts his hands in the air and, like. And then, like, of course.
[00:30:25] Speaker B: Bloodbath.
[00:30:26] Speaker C: Raining Blood. Yeah.
[00:30:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
We've talked about this scene before on the show that we do.
[00:30:33] Speaker C: This is the one where I, like, swore for, like, years it was Crystal Method. It's not
[00:30:38] Speaker B: right. It's a new order.
It's a new order remix by the, like.
I think they're called Pump Panel. It's been a minute. Wait. Yeah, something like that.
I'll have to find that one. I have it on 12 inch, and it's fucking awesome to drop randomly at a party. It's really fun.
[00:30:55] Speaker C: I remember you played that for me at one of your birthday parties. And I freaking.
[00:31:01] Speaker B: Yeah, I
[00:31:02] Speaker C: was like, I love Crystal Method.
[00:31:05] Speaker B: I was like, we'll talk about this later.
Well, that's a good one, I should think.
[00:31:14] Speaker C: But Blake, I mean, this guy, I mean, on top of Wesley's types, who is just, like.
Who's killer. I mean, he's just.
He just. He embodied that character so well.
Freaking Stephen Dorff as Deacon Frost.
[00:31:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:31:33] Speaker C: Freaking
[00:31:35] Speaker B: Kris Kristofferson
[00:31:36] Speaker C: as Willow.
[00:31:39] Speaker B: Sorry, as what?
[00:31:41] Speaker C: Whistler? Sorry.
[00:31:42] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you say Willow?
[00:31:45] Speaker C: Willow.
[00:31:47] Speaker B: That's a different movie. When did that come out? Oh, my God.
When did Willow come out? 89 night or something.
[00:31:55] Speaker C: I remember, like, Chris, shocking. So grumpy in that movie. Just like.
[00:31:58] Speaker E: Ah.
God damn it, Blade. You're dulling all the blades.
[00:32:03] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, for sure. It's got that dope. The dope katana that, like, pops blades out of the handle. If it's. If you're not Blade holding it. Awesome.
[00:32:11] Speaker C: It's got Donald Logue in that one.
[00:32:15] Speaker B: Who is that? I forget.
[00:32:17] Speaker C: He's.
He's in a lot of different stuff. Like, he's the one.
Blade, like, he's the one throughout the movie. Like, getting, like, constantly, like, messed up by Blade. Like, Blade cuts his face off, cuts his hand off. You know, he's in. What else has he been in? I'm, like, drawing a blank right now.
He was in that Gotham TV show.
[00:32:45] Speaker B: Oh, I didn't watch that for some reason.
[00:32:47] Speaker C: Oh, gosh. He was in an episode of the X Files I just watched recently.
[00:32:52] Speaker B: Oh, you've been watching X Files?
[00:32:54] Speaker C: Yeah, you know, just trying to get into the spooky season Vibe.
[00:32:58] Speaker B: Nice, nice, nice. I love me some X Files. Usually
[00:33:02] Speaker C: I just can't.
How goddamn attractive Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are. Oh, my Lord.
[00:33:11] Speaker B: Yeah. And the sexual tension is just beautiful.
[00:33:14] Speaker C: It's just. You can, like, cut it with a knife.
[00:33:16] Speaker B: Yep, it sure could.
[00:33:19] Speaker C: But do you. But do you also remember action horror? Oh,
[00:33:23] Speaker B: action horror. What do you mean? Like, as a genre?
[00:33:26] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:33:27] Speaker B: Well, I mean.
Wait, let me try to find one. Hang on. What else do we have up here?
Oh, bro, what's that? They've got a VHS of army of Darkness.
[00:33:41] Speaker C: Oh, shit. Dude, that's like action horror comedy.
[00:33:44] Speaker B: It is action horror comedy. Yeah. It's beautiful. It's the third in the Evil Dead trilogy. I think we've talked about this before, but, like, it's when Ash, our hero, Bruce Campbell, has defeated these evil forces in the first two movies just take place in a cabin. Then he's. He time travels to, like, medieval times and this blows their goddamn mind. And it's awesome.
[00:34:10] Speaker C: I actually.
It's so crazy that they have that vhs because I actually just ordered this one on vinyl for a record store day a couple weeks ago.
[00:34:18] Speaker B: Oh, nice. What else did you get on your records day? Record store day poll.
[00:34:23] Speaker C: Well, remember our episode we did on Batman and Robin, the Challenge?
I copped that one.
[00:34:29] Speaker B: Nice. Very cool. All right.
[00:34:31] Speaker C: I mean, only the essentials, if you ask me.
[00:34:34] Speaker B: Sure. Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha.
[00:34:36] Speaker C: Yeah, this is. I see. So I've seen Evil Dead 2, like, a boatload, this one.
I don't have the VHS, but I have it on, like, DVD.
But I remember, like, I remember loving it. It's been a long time, but I remember loving this one.
[00:34:51] Speaker B: I remember vividly. Like, I think I must have been like, eighth grade or something. That's how old I am, guys. Like, we're.
I mean, take.
I was, like, flipping through the channels and, like.
Like, you know, clicked past stars or whatever. It's just the ending of the movie when he's back in the. The grocery store that he works at Esmart or whatever, and one of the demons has followed him back to present time. And, like, he just unloads on this lady and, like, spins the guns around and, like. Like, fires the boomstick at her and all this. Then grabs the lady and says, fails to the king, baby. And,
[00:35:28] Speaker E: yeah,
[00:35:28] Speaker B: kisses her. And I'm like, what is this movie?
I've never seen anything like this before in my life. All the quick Sam Raimi cuts and, like, you know, zoom, zoom ins and all that. I was like, I'm into this. I finally watch it all the way through and it's got all these great gear up scenes. I love a good gear up sequence.
[00:35:46] Speaker C: Batman and Robin, great gear up sequence.
[00:35:50] Speaker B: Sure. With their butts and dicks and all that. Sure. But this is, you know, when he. This is the one where he put. He builds a robot hand and all that.
But there's the Great Evil Dead 2 one where he chops his hand off and has to build the chainsaw arm, which is so sick.
[00:36:10] Speaker C: I.
So the movie's directed by Sam Raimi, right?
[00:36:15] Speaker B: Correct.
[00:36:16] Speaker C: I love Sam Raimi because it's interesting because.
Excuse me, my first introduction to him was 2001 Spider man, you know, and it's. So I went back to the Evil Dead stuff way after the fact. And it's so neat to see like a lot of.
Of the decisions he made as a director for that franchise he's still doing for Spider Man. It's so cool.
[00:36:48] Speaker B: Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. You can see it. Spider Man's far from a horror flick, which is like his bread and butter, but specifically In Spider Man 2, when they're operating on Doc Ock and trying to take the tentacles off of them.
And it cuts to like this insane sequence where all the, you know, the octopus tentacles, like, have a mind of their own and start attacking people. And like, you can hear like ankles breaking. And like one guy even grabs a. Like a chainsaw, like, or a bone saw. Like a chainsaw. Like all these smash cuts. Oh, it's. It's just delicious,
[00:37:25] Speaker C: dude.
[00:37:25] Speaker B: Love that whole sequence.
[00:37:27] Speaker C: I forgot about that sequence, man.
[00:37:30] Speaker B: That's why Spiderman 2 might be the best Marvel movie ever.
I mean, Blade's great and all, but come on.
[00:37:38] Speaker C: Spider Man 2. Spartal man is Spider Man. These night claws are nuts, bro. Like, what's in it?
Witchbane, Blood of raccoon, blood of newt. I don't know what it is, but these are
[00:37:56] Speaker B: my seltzer says it has ground up goat horns in it. Okay.
[00:38:02] Speaker C: You can really taste the ground up goat horn.
[00:38:04] Speaker B: You really can. It's nice.
Has a nice mouth feel.
[00:38:12] Speaker C: I mean, that's so good. That, that one scene, he's like. He gets. He has like the chainsaw and he's like. And we'll take shop class. And then. Okay, the doctors, all snooty, they're like.
And then like, the arm moves.
[00:38:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
It pauses for a minute. Like, that's not supposed to happen. Oh, awesome. Awesome.
[00:38:37] Speaker C: That's a straight up horror movie right there.
[00:38:40] Speaker B: It's a horror movie sequence. That's for sure.
[00:38:45] Speaker C: So I. Oh, damn, dude. What, man? If you were to ask me in 1999 who I wanted to hang out with, just one on one, Go have some Capri sun, watch Jurassic Park, I don't know.
You know what my answer would be?
[00:39:03] Speaker B: What?
[00:39:03] Speaker C: Devin Sawa.
[00:39:09] Speaker B: That's weird. I would have said Sam Neill, but okay, if you're watching Jurassic park, but go ahead, you wanted it.
What's your deal with Devin Sawa, man?
[00:39:20] Speaker C: Dude, peep this.
Do you remember 1999's Idle Hands?
[00:39:26] Speaker B: Whoa. Idle Hands.
I think I saw it once at a party with some friends in ninth grade.
It's been a long, long time.
[00:39:41] Speaker C: But then you popped, like, an amazing erection and you were like, I can't watch this movie ever again.
[00:39:47] Speaker B: Hey, how about that? Army of Darkness to Idle Hands. Haunted Hand movies, right?
Possessed hand movies. There you go. Nice.
What was Idle Hands about? His hand is possessed and he starts jerking off too much. What is it?
[00:40:03] Speaker C: No, that's. No, that's. That's my life from 2001 to 2003.
[00:40:09] Speaker B: It's called mild Hands by Jake Drumgolster.
Oh, you like that?
[00:40:21] Speaker C: Dude, do you hear that? That wasn't me laughing. What?
[00:40:24] Speaker B: It wasn't you? That's really weird.
[00:40:26] Speaker C: That's weird,
[00:40:28] Speaker B: dude. Jake, do you think this place is haunted? As. Should I not. Should I not do this?
[00:40:34] Speaker C: I mean, I didn't want to say anything, man, but I think this place is haunted, but with good vibes. So, I mean,
[00:40:42] Speaker B: I'm having a good time so far, but. But, I mean, it's just kind of weird that the door disappeared and the paintings are changing.
Wait, remember the painting of the guy that was looking left? Now he's looking right.
[00:40:53] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:40:54] Speaker B: Now he looks like Devon Sawa. Look. Bit right.
[00:40:58] Speaker C: Oh. Oh, shit.
Okay. That's how I know this house is. This house has good vibes because Devon Salva brings nothing but the vibe.
[00:41:08] Speaker B: Okay, what was Idol of Hands about? I forget.
[00:41:12] Speaker C: So he's like a slacker, and he essentially. His hand becomes possessed by the devil.
By
[00:41:23] Speaker B: the devil. The devil.
Okay.
[00:41:27] Speaker C: And Vivica a Fox is out to save him or out to, you know, kill him or kill the possessed hand.
And hijinks ensue. It also stars 90s staples Jessica Alba.
[00:41:44] Speaker B: Sure, sure.
[00:41:45] Speaker C: Seth Green, Vivica A. Fox.
And Eldon Hansen.
[00:41:51] Speaker B: And what was the last one?
[00:41:53] Speaker C: Eldon Hansen.
[00:41:55] Speaker B: Who's Eldon Hanson?
[00:41:57] Speaker C: He played. Is
[00:41:58] Speaker B: he one of the Hanson brothers?
[00:42:01] Speaker C: He's the. He's the. He
[00:42:02] Speaker B: shows up and he's like, scoo Bop, bop, scary hand. Boop boop, bop.
[00:42:13] Speaker C: He's from the New Jersey Hanson.
They're spelled with an E.
[00:42:18] Speaker B: Okay. Hencens. Okay. No, that legit. Who is he?
[00:42:21] Speaker C: Yeah,
[00:42:22] Speaker B: I don't remember.
[00:42:24] Speaker C: You might remember him from the Mighty Ducks. He played Fulton Reed.
He played.
Did you ever see that Josh Hartnett movie O with mackay Pfeiffer?
[00:42:39] Speaker B: Was that the Othello one? I
[00:42:40] Speaker C: talk about Shakespeare. That.
[00:42:42] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:42:42] Speaker C: There you go.
[00:42:44] Speaker B: I think I saw it way back. He
[00:42:46] Speaker C: was in that one.
He was. He played Foggy Nelson in Daredevil.
[00:42:51] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Wow.
[00:42:52] Speaker C: He was in
[00:42:53] Speaker B: Money Ducks. Mm. Wow. Okay. How about that?
[00:42:57] Speaker C: He was. He was the one who.
In the first one, he hits the puck really hard. He's a total badass, but he can't ski.
And Emilio Espez is like, we need him on the team, but he can't skate.
[00:43:11] Speaker B: Okay.
Can you be an actor anymore if you're not, like, starting from the age of four?
That's what it feels like.
You have to be a child actor to be an actor these days. Is. That seems weird to me.
[00:43:29] Speaker C: Well, I mean, it certainly helps, but then you have guys like, like the Rock who, like, was straight up.
Started acting in Scorpio, being Keen.
[00:43:42] Speaker B: Well, he was a wrestler and shit, so he had the. Yeah, so he kind of moved sideways, huh?
[00:43:47] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:43:48] Speaker B: Okay, fair enough. That's all right. Yeah.
[00:43:51] Speaker C: Or like. Or like Creed from the Office.
[00:43:54] Speaker B: Oh, Creed
[00:43:54] Speaker C: from the Office.
[00:43:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:43:56] Speaker C: I think he was, like, a musician in the 60s and became this amazing comedic actor.
[00:44:03] Speaker B: Yeah, he's one of the best in the Office for sure,
[00:44:07] Speaker C: but yeah. Idle Hand. I watch this one a lot in 99. 99. 99. Oh, my God. Dude.
[00:44:13] Speaker B: What do
[00:44:14] Speaker C: you know? I just realized.
What did
[00:44:16] Speaker B: you just realize?
[00:44:17] Speaker C: If you turn.
If you turn 1999 upside down, you know what you get?
[00:44:27] Speaker B: Upside down years.
Wait, what do you mean?
[00:44:30] Speaker C: That's weird.
Six, six, six, one, bro.
[00:44:34] Speaker B: Wait, so
[00:44:35] Speaker C: we're at.
[00:44:36] Speaker B: And we're at 666 Blood Splatter Lane.
[00:44:41] Speaker C: That's kind of creepy, bro. You know, the one could be an L if you think about it.
[00:44:47] Speaker B: Yeah. People call me L for short sometimes. I don't like that. That's not better.
[00:44:53] Speaker C: Oh, shit. That's weird.
You know what?
Idle Hands is totally great.
I'm not gonna take this one because. Getting kind of spooky vibes, but it's got a great.
It's got a great soundtrack. Rob Zombie.
[00:45:08] Speaker B: Hang on, Jake. I'm gonna pee real quick. Hang on. I'm just Gonna. There's clearly not a door in this place. I'm just gonna pee in this corner. Do you mind?
[00:45:16] Speaker C: Of course not, dude. I'm perfect. Ruse. The 90s movies.
[00:45:19] Speaker B: Okay. All right,
[00:45:21] Speaker C: let's see what we got.
I'm just gonna lift off. I'm just gonna list off 90s movies.
[00:45:27] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:45:28] Speaker C: All right, here we go. Let's see what they got.
Oh, Batman Forever. That's where it's at.
Keaton doing his thing.
Okay.
Oh, damn.
Demolition Man.
This makes me want to go back and re. Watch Demolition Man Man. Stallone and Snipes doing it up. Damn, dude. Talking about Stallone. Judge Dredd. Oh, I'm.
I am taking this one. I am sorry, lady of the man. Oh, what was that?
[00:46:10] Speaker B: What? Okay. What? Oh, it's just me. It's just me, man.
It's just me.
[00:46:14] Speaker C: All right. That was weird. I could have sworn I felt someone tap me on the shoulder.
[00:46:21] Speaker B: What else they got on this shelf?
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God, Jake,
[00:46:27] Speaker C: what's that?
[00:46:29] Speaker B: They have a copy of Event Horizon.
[00:46:31] Speaker C: Oh, shit.
[00:46:34] Speaker B: Jake, when was the last time you saw Event Horizon,
[00:46:37] Speaker C: man? You know, it's been a couple years. Not because. Not because I didn't enjoy it, but because it freaking scared the balls off of me, bro.
[00:46:45] Speaker B: This movie, borderline, ruined my childhood.
It fucked me up because I really want. I remember going to see it in the theaters, dude, and I was all jazzed because Sam Neill was in it. I'm like, that's like my dad. I mean, that guy from Jurassic park.
And I was awesome.
All I wanted as a child in the early 90s was for Sam Neill to be my grumpy dad, but. And then I. So I went and saw Event Horizon because I'm like, oh, so there's no more dinosaurs. But it's fucking sci fi. I love sci fi.
And this movie fucked me up.
It is so fucking scary,
[00:47:28] Speaker C: dude.
What's the premise? Like, it's a ship that passed through a portal and went to hell.
[00:47:34] Speaker B: The idea is that Sam Neill, Dr. Grant builds a spaceship that is able.
Is able to accomplish faster than light speed space travel with using this engine called the Event Horizon. And what it does is it folds space and kind of essentially slingshots this vessel across the known universe.
It goes missing for a very specific 33amount of years, I believe, which is a biblical reference.
And then they find.
Just appears one day, years and years later, and everyone on board is dead. And it has been somewhere horrific because by slingshotting it through space, it passes through a.
What they call a dimension of pure chaos. And it's essentially hell. And so the ship is now possessed, and this rescue team goes on board with fucking Morpheus.
I shouldn't call him Morpheus, but fucking Larry
[00:48:40] Speaker C: Fishburne.
[00:48:41] Speaker B: Larry Fishburne. Yes. And they have to, you know, survive the ship, and it's awesome.
[00:48:48] Speaker C: Dude.
I. I wanted to be 100% because I didn't want to embarrass myself, but.
So the guy in the movie whose eyes get burned out of his, like, skull.
[00:49:03] Speaker B: There's a lot of eyes.
There's a lot of eye stuff in the movie, but there's one dude that, like, gets sucked into space and is, like, without a suit, and his eyes pop out of his head, and it's, like, the most horrific thing I've ever seen.
Oh, my
[00:49:20] Speaker C: God.
That guy Justin was played by an actor named Jack Noseworthy.
[00:49:28] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:49:30] Speaker C: Who also played a character in Idle Hands.
[00:49:33] Speaker B: Whoa.
[00:49:38] Speaker C: It's almost like this library room is, like, pulling us, like, kind of, like pulling our selections together. It's just kind of weird.
[00:49:48] Speaker B: Yeah. It's really.
It's kind of like a Netflix algorithm of a library. You know? It's telling us what we like already. That's weird.
[00:49:57] Speaker C: I just remember Lawrence Fishburne kicking ass. And then there was. He had a. I'm gonna look her up because I remember thinking she was great in the movie.
Lt. Stark, played by Jolie Richardson.
You might remember her from the Patriots.
I remember she. She was fantastic. And they were like. Because Sam Neill, I guess, gets possessed, and at the end, like, he said, like, a burned corpse with, like, no eyes or something like that. It's really twisted. Yeah.
[00:50:33] Speaker B: Where we're going, we don't need eyes to see. It's really fucked.
[00:50:37] Speaker C: It's kind of like a play on where we're going. We don't need roads.
[00:50:41] Speaker B: That's exactly correct. It is kind of like that. He's like a really dark, twisted, dark brown.
Yeah. Where we're going, we don't need eyes to see.
And so imagine me being young as hell, just being a. You know, getting over being obsessed with Jurassic park. And this helped.
And seeing this dude rip. Rip his eyeballs out and threaten to drag everyone to hell, Just really upsetting,
[00:51:09] Speaker C: man. That's a good one. I need to revisit Van Horizon. Can you. Can. Can I take that one? Whs.
[00:51:17] Speaker B: Please go on.
Yeah. It's creepy as hell.
[00:51:20] Speaker C: That's a great pick. Thanks for letting me snag that for media. I appreciate it.
[00:51:24] Speaker B: Sure. It's one of those movies where, like, oh, I'm gonna go over to my friend's house and like, and they reveal, like, oh, my folks aren't home. We're gonna watch an R rated scary movie, and it's something that's going to literally just destroy your life for, like, a few weeks.
It's one of those.
[00:51:42] Speaker C: Anywhere from jv.
[00:51:44] Speaker B: No, nothing yet.
Just gonna look in this.
[00:51:48] Speaker C: I'm
[00:51:48] Speaker B: gonna look on this shelf some more. Oh, Sixth Sense. That's all right. Well, yeah. Oh, Cape Fear. Dude,
[00:51:55] Speaker C: Cape Fear was cool.
[00:51:59] Speaker B: That's like an arty horror movie. What else. What else do you see up here?
[00:52:03] Speaker C: Oh, my God.
[00:52:06] Speaker B: What?
[00:52:08] Speaker C: Dude, can we go turn on the lamp that looks like it's made from human skin and sit on this couch made that looks like it's made from bones.
I feel like we need to sit down and talk about this one.
What are your thoughts on 98s?
The faculty?
[00:52:35] Speaker B: Oh, I thought you were looking at the other one.
Sure, let's have a seat and talk about the faculty.
Look over here. I'll just turn this lamp on. Do, do, do, do, do. Okay,
[00:52:55] Speaker C: Man. The faculty talking. You know, I was so excited when you brought up Dusk Ladon earlier, man, because this one is a Robert Rodriguez joint.
[00:53:08] Speaker B: Is it Rodriguez?
[00:53:11] Speaker C: Yes, sir.
[00:53:12] Speaker B: Wow. I didn't. Did I know that?
Interesting.
Okay. Wow. Okay. I legit. I did not know that.
Or didn't remember it at least.
[00:53:24] Speaker C: So really cool backstory.
I actually went to the same high school in San Antonio as Robert Rodriguez.
[00:53:33] Speaker B: Really?
[00:53:34] Speaker C: And yeah, there was always this legend that, like, went around, like, campus and, like, with, like, friends that the characters in the faculty, like the alien teachers were based off of teachers at the high school or where I went.
And what's really interesting is like, like the. There are a lot of similarities, like the.
Like the school colors for the high school in. The faculty are, like, maroon and gold, which is what my high schools was.
The.
The school mascot is, like, the Hornets.
Our school mascot was the yellow Jackets.
It's just really, really interesting. And, like, what I love is a lot of the movie is filmed in the area, so 666 Blood Splatter Lane is actually in the Austin area, and that's where Robert Rodriguez filmed. The faculty filmed it in Lockhart, Texas.
San Marcos in Dallas. I just. I mean, it's. I watched this movie a ton when I was a kid, and it's just one of my favorite movies from the 90s.
[00:54:57] Speaker B: Yeah, right on. I remember it being a whole real big deal. And when it came out, I remember I Remember liking it a whole lot more than, like, those Scream movies and all that stuff. And like, oh, I know what you did last summer.
And even like, you know, like, you know, your Jason's and your. And your. Oh, that's weird. Jason Voorhees. J. Huh? No, no, no. Like the Freddy stuff and like, the whatever being a lot more interesting because I had a sci fi element. And like, it was about these. This group of kids, like, banding together, and they're all, you know, from different. It's like the Breakfast Club versus Aliens and stuff, you know?
[00:55:40] Speaker C: Yeah.
And I mean, if you ask me, I mean, when it comes to, like, the top three of that Breakfast Club versus Aliens, I mean, you have like. I mean, Jordana Brewster, who would go on to like, be really great in the Fast and the Furious series. She plays
[00:55:59] Speaker B: Paul
[00:55:59] Speaker C: Walker's ruckus, Vin Diesel's sister.
And then you have. Which makes
[00:56:05] Speaker B: no sense, but okay, well, yeah, yeah. Elijah Wood. Yeah,
[00:56:08] Speaker C: Elijah Wood, the nerd who saves the day. Love Elijah.
[00:56:12] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:56:13] Speaker C: And an actor and a man and a human being.
I've wanted to talk to you about quite some time, and his work means just the world to me, and I'm so happy to introduce him. I mean, I wish we were recording this right now because this discussion has been fantastic. But, I mean, maybe we can bring him up on our podcast, but
[00:56:43] Speaker B: sure.
[00:56:45] Speaker C: How about Josh Hartnett?
[00:56:48] Speaker B: Josh Hartnett? Yeah. He was a big deal. Deal in those days. Where has he been? Did he retire or something? He just bounced. It's like, I'm over it. I don't care.
[00:56:59] Speaker C: I think he deuced it for a while just because he didn't want to be an actor anymore.
[00:57:03] Speaker B: Okay, I kind of respect that.
[00:57:06] Speaker C: But he's come back and he's done, like, work on, like, Penny Dreadful, that movie with.
Oh my gosh, what's his name? He was the bad guy in the Rocket. Here.
Talk about 90s movies.
[00:57:21] Speaker B: Oh, wait, wasn't it
[00:57:24] Speaker C: not Tom Sizemore,
[00:57:26] Speaker B: the back end of the Rocketeer. Wasn't it one of the Bonds.
[00:57:30] Speaker C: George. Not George Lazenby. Timothy Dalton.
[00:57:33] Speaker B: Timothy Dalton. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there you go.
[00:57:38] Speaker C: It's Josh Hartner, Timothy Dalton, and Ava Green from James Bond 300.
She's great. I love her.
[00:57:52] Speaker B: Was she in 300?
[00:57:54] Speaker C: She was in the 300 sequel. 300 Rise of
[00:57:56] Speaker B: Empire.
I don't think I ever saw that one. But I love her in Casino Royale. Holy geez.
[00:58:03] Speaker C: Vespa, right?
[00:58:04] Speaker B: Vespa. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oof, my goof.
[00:58:08] Speaker C: So Josh Hartnett Plays a drug dealer, essentially, in this movie.
But he wear. He wears this. He wears, like, the coolest outfit ever, basically. It's like cargo khaki pants.
[00:58:23] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:58:23] Speaker C: With, like, a long white sleeve shirt with a black shirt over it. Oh, man, I.
I spent, like, 15 years trying to recreate that look, but I'm like 12 inches. I'm a foot shorter than Josh Hartnett, so it didn't look nearly as cool.
[00:58:45] Speaker B: Did you have a pair of cargo pants? I did.
I did too, dude. I did too. I
[00:58:51] Speaker C: mean, what a time to be alive,
[00:58:56] Speaker B: man.
What was the cargo pants thing about? That was so weird. Came out of nowhere.
[00:59:01] Speaker C: What are you gonna. I mean, I'm putting VHS tapes in my cargos that I'm wearing right now. Oh,
[00:59:06] Speaker B: right, of course.
[00:59:07] Speaker C: What did everyone else put in their car? I don't know.
[00:59:11] Speaker B: Yeah, I just have my keys and wallet in there. That's weird.
[00:59:15] Speaker C: Oh, man. I'm snagging the faculty because, I mean, if anything, it has, like, possibly one of the coolest songs on a soundtrack.
It's got another brick in the wall covered by the supergroup class of 99.
[00:59:33] Speaker B: Whoa. You gotta send me a link to that sometime, dude. I wanna. I wanna hear that
[00:59:37] Speaker C: as soon as I get, like, WI FI back on my phone. Right now. I just have.
I don't know what this is on my phone. It's like.
It's a baby, but with, like, black eyes. I don't know what it is, but
[00:59:53] Speaker B: it's.
Is that the name of the. Of the WI FI channel or.
[01:00:01] Speaker C: Baby. Baby with black eyes. That might be it,
[01:00:03] Speaker B: baby. That might be it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A customized thing. That's weird.
[01:00:09] Speaker C: But in the. In the movie, in the scene where the football team is playing in the big game, it plays. We don't need no. Ed, you okay? Shun. Dude, it has.
Robert Patrick is playing like the football. Like the football coach.
[01:00:26] Speaker B: Yeah, I remember that now. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
T3000 or whatever. Or whatever the hell it was.
[01:00:34] Speaker C: Check out who was in the class of 99 band. So you had Martin Lenoble of Porno for Pyro.
[01:00:45] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:00:46] Speaker C: Stephen Perkins of Jane's Addiction as a drummer.
You had freaking Tom Morello from Regius Machine and Audio.
[01:00:58] Speaker B: Sure. Okay. All right. All right. Now you're cooking with gas.
[01:01:02] Speaker C: And on vocals. I didn't even realize this.
You have freaking Lane Stanley from Alice in Chains.
[01:01:11] Speaker B: Whoa. Who. He's not with us anymore, is he?
[01:01:15] Speaker C: No, he is. Unfortunately, he's since passed.
[01:01:19] Speaker B: Was this a super group? Was this a super group? That Was formed for the soundtrack or something?
[01:01:24] Speaker C: I think so.
I think it was just for the soundtrack.
[01:01:30] Speaker B: Wow.
That's something else. Wow. Okay.
[01:01:34] Speaker C: Yeah. And for that reason, in that region alone, I am snagging the faculty from this library.
[01:01:44] Speaker B: Enjoy yourself. All right. Go on.
All right, well, maybe I should just take one. I don't know what's up here? Let's see.
I'm gonna take one upstairs when I finally get out of here and go to my apartment, I guess.
What? What do we got? What have we got?
Oh, Predator 2.
Oh, tremors. That's kind of fun.
[01:02:08] Speaker C: Oh, Kevin Bacon.
[01:02:10] Speaker B: Yeah, sure. Oh, Fire in the Sky. Did you ever see Fire in the Sky? That's like a weird.
It's a weird alien abduction movie. It's really fucked up.
Arachnophobia, dude.
[01:02:20] Speaker C: Oh. Jeff Daniels kicking ass with spiders
[01:02:24] Speaker B: versus spiders.
John Goodman being John Goodman is. He's the exterminator. And he's awesome.
[01:02:32] Speaker C: He's got, like, guns that he's shooting, like, poison at spiders.
[01:02:36] Speaker B: Yeah, he's like, yep, I'm bad. He's like, killing the spiders. But I think I might have to take this one.
Above all, Silence of the Lambs.
[01:02:45] Speaker C: Oh, shit.
[01:02:47] Speaker B: I don't know. Might be the best, like, scary movie from the 90s and out of this library. Come on.
[01:02:53] Speaker C: I mean, you make a really hard argument for that.
That movie's incredible.
[01:03:02] Speaker B: Yeah. It's like. It's not one you, like, throw on in the background of a party or anything, but it's. Oof, my goof, you know? It's just awesome. It's awesome. It's a great creepy movie. All the characters stare right down the barrel, the lens, you know, like, looking right at you. It's really unnerving.
[01:03:19] Speaker C: You know, what's really interesting is. So I watched a couple months back, I watched, like, Philadelphia Story or. No. Philadelphia.
[01:03:29] Speaker B: The Tom Hanks AIDS movie.
[01:03:31] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:03:32] Speaker B: I've never seen it.
[01:03:34] Speaker C: Dude.
It's Tom Hanks. Denzel Washington, actually. We talked about him earlier, but Antonio Banderas is in that one as well.
[01:03:43] Speaker B: Oh, right on.
[01:03:44] Speaker C: I think he plays Tom Hanks boyfriend in that movie.
I mean, it's a beautifully filmed, beautifully acted movie, but it's also directed by Jonathan Dem, who directed Science of the Lambs.
[01:04:00] Speaker B: Wow. Wait, so I didn't know that same director. Wow.
[01:04:07] Speaker C: Yeah. And he has passed since. Since then. He is.
[01:04:11] Speaker B: Oh.
[01:04:13] Speaker C: But what's really interesting is the, you know, that iconic, like, looking straight at the camera. It's like.
Cause you're supposed to feel like Clarice Starling like, you're being talked to from, like, freaking. What's his name?
[01:04:31] Speaker B: Hannibal. Hannibal Lecter.
[01:04:33] Speaker C: Hannibal
[01:04:34] Speaker B: Lecter. Anthony Hopkins. Yeah.
[01:04:36] Speaker C: Incredible in that guy.
[01:04:38] Speaker B: Yep.
[01:04:40] Speaker C: But the guy.
Not Roy Schreider.
He played Stick in Daredevil. I can't think of his name, though. And he was. He was the villain in Backdraft.
Scott Glenn.
[01:04:54] Speaker B: Damn it. You made me twice. Yeah, okay. Yeah, I know who you're talking about. Yeah. Scott Glenn. Scott Glenn.
[01:04:59] Speaker C: He's. He's the FBI guy who's like. He's like, starling, I need you to go interview with this guy in Maryland. Blah, blah, blah, blah. He's. She's like Hannibal Cannibal, you know?
[01:05:11] Speaker B: Yeah,
[01:05:12] Speaker C: absolutely. I mean, like, we. We briefly talked about him, but I mean, Anthony Hopkins. I mean, just.
He's so freaking scary, and. But he. He's scary, but, like, so, like, Freddy Krueger had to, like, have his face burned. You know, like, Chucky had to be like a little doll. And. Yeah.
To be scary, like, Hellraiser had to have pins in his face. Anthony Hopkins just looks like. Like.
Like an. Like an aged British gentleman, but just. He's so scary.
[01:05:46] Speaker B: Yeah, he's terrifying.
[01:05:50] Speaker C: I think. I think it's important to talk about the main villain in the movie. Buffalo. He's a Buffalo buff. Bill. Buffalo Bob.
[01:06:02] Speaker B: Yeah, I think it's Buffalo Bill. I haven't seen it in a minute, but.
[01:06:07] Speaker C: So I just. I was able to get into the WI fi.
The password.
The password was strangely. Hellraiser666 rules.
[01:06:17] Speaker B: Okay. That's disconcerting to me, but okay,
[01:06:20] Speaker C: that could probably be changed.
[01:06:22] Speaker B: And you just guessed it. You just guessed it. Did you see it written down?
[01:06:26] Speaker C: You know, I took a shot in the dark.
So the actor. So in the iconic scene in Sights of the Lambs where Hannibal Lecter breaks out of prison.
[01:06:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:06:41] Speaker C: When there's a. There's a member of a SWAT team that comes in, and he, like. He's one. He's.
He comes in and he, like, looks around and he's like, oh, my God.
He was played by an actor named Daniel Von Bargen, who also played a teacher in the faculty. Mr. John Tate. He's the one in the Faculty where he was just like, I want you to write down all the names of your family members and then their friends.
And then Stan, the quarterback, goes, is this going to be on the test? And he goes, this is the test.
[01:07:19] Speaker B: Wow. Nice. That's a good line. Wasn't Jon Stewart in the Faculty?
[01:07:25] Speaker C: Dude. Jon Stewart played the science instructor in the faculty. He
[01:07:28] Speaker B: gets stabbed in the eye right
[01:07:31] Speaker C: by my guy, Josh Hartnett.
[01:07:33] Speaker B: Josh Hartnett. Sure, sure, sure.
[01:07:36] Speaker C: I just remember, like, the, like, Science of Lambs.
Like, I mean, the artwork of it, it's like it's based off a Dali painting, right? Like, isn't it like the skeleton on.
[01:07:49] Speaker B: Good question. Like, the skull on this moth in front of this lady's mouth.
Like, the skull is actually made up of little bodies
[01:07:58] Speaker C: in a
[01:07:59] Speaker B: weird shape. And that might. That feels Dolly esque. Like it might be. You're probably right. I'm not really sure about that,
[01:08:05] Speaker E: but yeah.
[01:08:05] Speaker B: Oof.
No, you're thinking of the Melted clocks one.
[01:08:10] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, that's right.
I. No, that was it. I honestly lands. I think. I think that's like the.
The greatest horror movie of the 90s.
[01:08:26] Speaker B: Yeah, probably. Right. Well. Well, up here. Up here again is also fucking seven.
[01:08:33] Speaker C: Oh, man.
[01:08:35] Speaker B: I don't know if you even call that a horror movie. It's more like a crime scene thriller or something like that, but it's a goodie.
[01:08:41] Speaker C: I forget about Seven.
[01:08:43] Speaker B: Yeah, seven's worthwhile.
[01:08:46] Speaker C: They got everything here, man.
[01:08:48] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, my God. Lawnmower Man. Did you ever see Lawnmower Man?
[01:08:52] Speaker C: I never saw that one.
[01:08:54] Speaker B: Don't worry about it. It's fun, though.
[01:08:58] Speaker C: Did you ever see John Carpenter's Vampires?
[01:09:02] Speaker B: I never saw that one. Is that the Bon Jovi one?
[01:09:05] Speaker C: No, that's the one with James Woods.
[01:09:08] Speaker B: All right, same difference.
[01:09:10] Speaker C: But no, man, this is.
There really is. There really is a lot of really fantastic stuff here.
You should definitely ask JB if you're gonna be able to keep it. I mean. I mean, just. You could probably. Even the ones you don't want, like, I mean, you could probably.
You can probably. Hold on.
You could probably.
[01:09:36] Speaker B: Wait. Oh, Jake, what's wrong? Jake, wait.
The fireplace just exploded. Jake, no. No. What's happening?
[01:09:45] Speaker E: Jake, no.
[01:09:49] Speaker F: We are the ghost of Stefani Manor.
You have disrupted our VHS collection.
Now we drag you to hell.
[01:10:03] Speaker B: Jake just got dragged into hell by a spirit.
Fuck, I hope he's okay, at least.
[01:10:11] Speaker C: I'm
[01:10:12] Speaker B: just gonna go ahead and.
What?
[01:10:15] Speaker C: I'm just telling
[01:10:16] Speaker G: you right now, you probably shouldn't keep Stefani Manor.
[01:10:20] Speaker B: Wait, really bad news.
[01:10:23] Speaker G: I'm just saying, it's probably not your best inference.
[01:10:30] Speaker B: Is this the otherworldly voice of Jake, my podcast partner, who is floating around the room?
[01:10:37] Speaker G: It is.
[01:10:39] Speaker B: Jake, do you mind if I take this copy of this VHS copy of Lawnmower man home with me? No, no.
[01:11:01] Speaker A: Happy Halloween, everybody.
Something tells me the boys will be back talking 90s music soon enough.
Be safe and keep sipping.
Special thanks to Maddie, Jesse, Lana and me, Ma.
